Yōkai · Legends · Dark Beliefs · Curses — the side of Kyoto most visitors never see.
This is not a cute folklore stroll. For a thousand years Kyoto was the capital not just of Japan, but of its fears — a city that built shrines the way other cities build walls, to keep something out.
Over three hours at twilight we walk the sites of spirit control and exorcism: legends of the imperial onmyōji — court exorcists whose seals you'll recognize from our book; vengeful scholars deified to stop their anger; shrines raised for protection against curses. The night ends in a quiet ritual garden once used to appease the forces this city still respects.
The Ghost Tour is a night scare-walk in the Arashiyama forest. This tour is history: real beliefs, real rituals and real events in the old city — darker in subject, calmer in style.
Japan's most famous onmyōji — a court exorcist and diviner of the Heian era. His legends, and the shrine that bears his name, anchor this route.
